Cardwright — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-06 · Operated by BiLingoPlus LLC (Wyoming, USA)

The short version: your flashcards never leave your device. Cardwright stores everything locally and only ever connects to two places, and only if you choose to.

What the extension reads

When you click the Cardwright icon, it reads the text you have selected on the current page (via Chrome's activeTab permission) so it can turn that selection into a flashcard. This happens only on the tab you click, only at that moment. Out of the box Cardwright has no standing access to any website and reads nothing else from the page.

The optional “selection button” (off unless you turn it on)

Cardwright can show a small “+ Add card” button next to text you highlight, so you can capture a selection without opening the popup. This is off by default. Turning it on (gear menu → Selection button, or the one-line offer on first run) makes Chrome ask you for permission to run on the sites you visit; if you decline, nothing changes.

While it is on, Cardwright runs a small script on the http/https pages you open, and that script does exactly two things: draw the button next to your highlight, and — only when you click that button — copy the highlighted text into your own local storage so the popup can turn it into a card. It reads nothing else from the page, watches nothing you do not highlight, and sends nothing anywhere. Switching the toggle off removes the permission and unregisters the script, so it stops running entirely. You can also revoke the permission yourself at chrome://extensions → Cardwright → Site access.

What is stored (locally)

Your decks, cards, review progress and settings are saved only on your device using Chrome's storage API. They never sync to us. You can back them up to a JSON file yourself, and remove everything by uninstalling the extension. Files you export (Anki or Quizlet) are saved by you, to your own computer.

The only connections Cardwright makes — both optional and user-initiated

That's all. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no selling of data.
