Read a HAR file without uploading it anywhere

Someone asked you to “send a HAR”, or you exported one from DevTools — now you need to read it. HARScope opens HAR files right in Chrome and lays every request out clearly. It has no permissions and makes no network requests, so the file never leaves your computer.

Why offline matters

A HAR file is a recording of everything your browser sent and received: it routinely contains cookies, session tokens, Authorization headers and request bodies. Most “HAR viewers” are websites — to use them you upload that file to someone else’s server.

HARScope reads the file on your own device. There is nothing to upload and nowhere for it to go.

How to open a HAR file

The full guide — DevTools, Firefox, online viewers and how to share a HAR safely: How to open a HAR file.

  1. Click the HARScope icon in Chrome to open the viewer.
  2. Drag your .har file onto it, or click Open HAR file….
  3. Click any request to inspect it; filter and search as needed.

Before you send a HAR to anyone, remember it may hold live session cookies — share it only with people you trust, and log out of the recorded site afterwards to invalidate them.

Privacy
