Translate Slides with AI: setup, fixes and Premium

Updated 16 October 2026 · 7 min read

Short answer: Install the add-on from the Google Workspace™ Marketplace with every permission ticked, then open a presentation and choose Extensions → Translate Slides with AI → 🌐 Open translator. If that menu item does nothing, a permission was left unticked at install: remove the add-on and install it again. The other messages you may see each have a short fix below.

On this page1. Install the add-on · 2. Translate your first deck · 3. Common problems and fixes · 4. Premium: buy, activate, cancel · 5. Still stuck?

1. Install the add-on

  1. Open the Translate Slides with AI listing on the Google Workspace™ Marketplace and click Install.
  2. Choose the Google account you use for Google Slides™.
  3. Google shows the permissions the add-on needs, sometimes with a separate tick box for each one. Leave every box ticked. There are four:
    • see and edit the presentation you have open, and no other file, to read its text and write the translation back;
    • display its panel inside Google Slides™;
    • connect to an external service, to send the text for translation and, if you buy Premium, to check your subscription;
    • see your Google account email address, used only to recognise a Premium subscription.

There is no account to create and no API key to paste.

If the permission to display the panel is left unticked, the add-on still installs but cannot open. The first problem below explains the fix.

2. Translate your first deck

  1. If you want to keep the original, make a copy first with File → Make a copy. The add-on rewrites the presentation in place.
  2. In the presentation, open Extensions → Translate Slides with AI → 🌐 Open translator. The panel opens on the right.
  3. From: leave it on Auto-detect, or pick the language the deck is in.
  4. To: choose the language you want. There is deliberately no default; next time the panel starts on the language you used last.
  5. Optional: tick Also translate speaker notes, Translate only the current slide or Translate only the selected text or frame. Under Prompt / context you can add instructions such as “formal tone, keep brand names”.
  6. Click Translate deck. A clean run ends with ✅ Done. If anything did not finish, the headline says so and the note under it tells you what to do next.

Each slide on which something was translated counts as one slide of your monthly allowance; translating a selection counts as one slide. The chip next to 💎 Upgrade shows how many free slides you have left this month.

3. Common problems and fixes

The menu item does nothing, or says the add-on cannot open its panel

This happens when the permission that lets the add-on display its panel was left unticked during installation: the add-on is installed, but Google does not let it open. You may see a message that Google has not granted the permission, or an error that the add-on cannot open its panel.

  1. In Google Slides™, open Extensions → Add-ons → Manage add-ons.
  2. Find Translate Slides with AI, open its menu and remove it.
  3. Install it again from the Marketplace and leave every permission ticked.

If it still will not open, write to us from the support page and we will help.

Translate Slides with AI is missing from the Extensions menu

The add-on adds its menu each time a presentation opens. Very occasionally Google does not finish that step in time and the menu does not appear. Reload the browser tab with the presentation and look under Extensions again.

“This deck already looks like …” after I translated one slide first

Before translating a whole deck, the add-on looks at the first slide that has text. If that slide comes back unchanged, because it is already in the target language, the run stops before it spends the rest of your allowance. That is also what happens when you tried one slide first and then pressed Translate deck.

To finish a partly translated deck, open a slide that is still in the original language, tick Translate only the current slide and continue slide by slide. If the deck really is in that language already, pick a different target language.

It stopped after some of the slides “to stay inside Google’s 6-minute limit”

Google ends any single add-on run after six minutes. On a very long deck the add-on stops itself just before that point and tells you how many slides it finished; everything translated so far is kept. Continue from the first slide that is still in the original language with Translate only the current slide. Pressing Translate deck again would be refused for the reason in the previous answer.

“Finished with problems” or “Paused before finishing”

If the headline says ⚠️ Finished with problems, the note under it says either how many text blocks could not be translated, or “Paused before finishing” — the translation service was busy; the translated part is kept. In both cases wait a minute, open a slide that still has untranslated text and use Translate only the current slide.

“You have used all 100 free slides this month”

The free plan includes 100 translated slides per calendar month, and the counter resets on the 1st (UTC), so the allowance comes back every month. If a deck runs out part-way, the panel shows ⏸ Stopped at your monthly limit and the slides already translated stay translated. To finish now, Premium raises the allowance to 10,000 slides a month.

Some words lost their own bold, colour or link

Bold, colours, fonts and links on individual words normally carry over to the translation. A text box with a very large number of differently styled pieces is translated as plain text in the box’s main style instead, because cutting it that finely makes the translation worse. Check heavily styled boxes after translating.

“Translation is temporarily unavailable on our side”

The problem is on our side, not in your presentation. Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, write to us.

Can I undo a translation?

The translation is written into the presentation itself, so the simplest safety net is a copy made before you start (File → Make a copy). If you did not make one, Google Slides™ keeps earlier versions under File → Version history.

4. Premium: buy, activate, cancel

Premium is a subscription: $9.99 a month billed yearly ($119.88 a year), or $14.99 month-to-month. It raises your allowance from 100 to 10,000 translated slides a month. The translation itself is identical on both plans.

Buy

  1. In the panel, click 💎 Upgrade, choose Yearly or Monthly and click 💎 Get Premium. A checkout page opens with your Google account email already filled in.
  2. Pay on the secure checkout. It is run by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, which also sends your receipt; the charge may appear on your statement as Paddle.

You can also buy from the pricing section of the product page.

Activate

There is no licence key for this add-on: Premium is tied to the email address you paid with.

One subscription covers one Google account. If you see that the subscription is already active on a different Google account, or you need to move it to another account, email us. “No active subscription found” straight after paying usually means the payment has not reached us yet: wait a minute and try again. Activation can be tried up to 8 times a day.

Lost your key?

There is nothing to lose: activation uses your checkout email. If you are not sure which address you paid with, look for the Paddle receipt in your inbox, or email us.

Cancel

Cancel any time from the link in any Paddle receipt, or by emailing info@bilingoplus.com. Future charges stop, Premium keeps working to the end of the period you paid for, and then you are back on the free 100 slides a month.

Refund

You can ask for a refund within 14 days of any charge, including a renewal, for any reason; see the Refund Policy. We cancel the subscription when we issue the refund, so nothing renews; access to the paid plan ends within about a week, the next time the product checks your licence or subscription. The free plan keeps working. If you only want to stop renewals, cancel instead.

5. Still stuck?

Write to us from the support page or at info@bilingoplus.com. Tell us which languages you translated between and include a screenshot of any message. We usually reply within one business day.
